- SHANNON'S SAD STORY - THE LAST THREE WEEKS OF HER LIFE.
Shannon bled to death from complications associated with a tonsillectomy procedure done on Monday July 14, 2003.
- Prior
to the surgery, Shannon was in excellent shape and good health. She was playing on two ladies softball teams, a college volleyball
team, and working out daily to prepare for a charitable 10 K run.
- After the initial surgery, Shannon had her
first "bleed" on Monday, July 21, 2003. She woke up choking on her own blood. She was transported to the hospital by the Mentor
Fire Department. A surgical procedure was performed on her and she was released several hours later and sent home./>
- Shannon
had her second "bleed" on Saturday, July 26, 2003 and was transported to Richmond Heights ER by the local fire department
rescue squad after bleeding extensively at a friend's wedding reception.
- She was transferred later that day from
Richmond Heights Hospital by critical care ambulance to Lake West Hospital. Another surgical procedure was done on her and
she was admitted to the hospital.
- Shannon remained in the hospital on Sunday and Monday and received two transfusions.
- Shannon was released from the hospital about 130 PM on Tuesday, July 29, 2003.
- That afternoon Shannon apparently
had a premonition that she would soon die. She spoke of death, God and angels with her father about 3 hours before her death.
- Around 745pm, Shannon was on the sofa resting. A friend had stopped by with flowers and was sitting nearby. Shannon
sat up, spit into a cup, saw blood and asked the friend to call her dad. She walked into the kitchen, asked for help, and
then bled to death in the kitchen of her new home. Firefighters (and later nurses) worked extensively to revive her without
success.
